Harmony should not be interpreted as pacifism; it is simply the acknowledgment that yielding is sometimes more effective than brute strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From one point of view, Wad\u014d-ry\u016b might be considered a style of j\u016bjutsu rather than karate. <br><br>It should be noted that Hironori \u014ctsuka, the founder of  <br>Wad\u014d-ry\u016b  embraced Shotokan and was its chief instructor for a time. <br><br>When \u014ctsuka first registered his school with the Dai Nippon Butoku Kai in 1938, the style was called &#8220;Shinshu Wad\u014d-ry\u016b Karate-J\u016bjutsu,&#8221; a name that reflects its hybrid character. <br><br>\u014ctsuka was a licensed Shind\u014d Y\u014dshin-ry\u016b practitioner and a student of Y\u014dshin-ry\u016b when he first met the Okinawan karate master Gichin Funakoshi. <br><br>After having learned from Funakoshi, and after their split, with Okinawan masters such as Kenwa Mabuni and Motobu Ch\u014dki, \u014ctsuka merged Shind\u014d Y\u014dshin-ry\u016b with Okinawan karate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The result of \u014ctsuka&#8217;s efforts is Wad\u014d-ry\u016b Karate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The name Wad\u014d-ry\u016b has three parts: Wa, d\u014d, and ry\u016b.
