Robert Cragg – Sandan (3rd Dan) Senior Instructor
Robert began his karate journey in 1994 at the age of five, training at Higashi—now known as Jersey Wado Ryu. From his very first session, he demonstrated unwavering commitment and determination, setting his sights on earning a black belt, a goal he proudly achieved in October 2005.
Now a Sandan (3rd Dan) and one of the club’s longest-standing and most respected members, Robert brings nearly three decades of experience to the dojo. He is a central figure in the instructing team and widely recognised as the natural successor to Chief Instructor Ryan Lambotte. Robert developed under Ryan’s expert guidance, and has also studied under true masters of traditional Japanese Karate, gaining deep insight into the art’s classical foundations and modern applications.
Robert is particularly passionate about the practical application of karate, with a focus on self-defence and real-world effectiveness. He embodies the discipline, focus, and perseverance that martial arts cultivate—principles that have shaped not only his karate but also his professional life.
Outside the dojo, Robert holds a senior position within the local Government of Jersey, where he plays an active role in community development and public service. He is a dedicated supporter of local charities and a passionate advocate for giving back to the island. A devoted animal lover and a highly experienced marksman, he is also well known in Jersey’s sporting community for his skill and sportsmanship in shooting.
Robert’s humility, technical skill, and deep sense of duty make him a role model for students of all ages and a vital part of Jersey Wado Ryu’s legacy and future.
